This is the final weekend to nominate a deserving teacher in Mohawk's Facebook contest. On its Facebook page, Mohawk states it is honoring Dr. Seuss's birthday by giving away a bound piece of SmartStrand carpet and a collection of books to create a reading nook in the winning teacher's classroom. To nominate someone, visit Mohawk's Facebook page and tag the teacher in the appropriate post by the end of the day on Sunday, March 9, 2014.

If you opt to have your rug made out of broadloom, you need to decide how you will finish the edges of the carpet. Carpet edges must be finished so they don't fray or unravel.
You have several options for finishing the edges: binding, serging or fringing. Binding is the most common and least expensive option. Serging gives an elegant finish, while fringing attempts to replicate the look of a hand-knotted rug (and often looks out of place as a finishing on broadloom).
While fringe typically comes in white or off-white only, binding and serging can be matched very closely to the color of the carpet, giving a clean, finished look.

Adding an area rug to a space not only provides warmth and comfort, but it serves the equally important function of adding style. The impact it will have on the overall style of the room depends, in large part, on the color of the rug.
I have always said to my customers that an area rug is a great opportunity to "let loose" and be a bit braver than you typically would be in your decorating. A bold rug can add drama to your space, but can do so in a way that is not overwhelming, as it is only a part of the room's whole decor. Area rugs are easily changeable, and while they may not be inexpensive, they are generally a lot less than the cost of other decor elements, such as furniture and wall-to-wall floor covering. So, if the bold colors get too tiresome, or the colors that were super trendy when you bought the rug are "so last year" you can swap your rug with relative ease.
Of course, sometimes you don't want to increase the drama in a room; you just want an area rug to blend in with the rest of the room's decor. Neutral colors and muted tones are the best way to achieve a more relaxed feel in your space, and it is best to use the color scheme consistently throughout the room, avoiding too much contrast.
